The East Bay Coalition
Against Urban Casinos is a growing coalition of elected officials, faith and community

into our cities.

The following statement outlines the
position of coalition members from throughout the East Bay on allowing urban
casinos in our community:
May it be recognized that we decry the way Native
Americans have been treated throughout the history of this country and we
wholeheartedly support the efforts of Native American tribes to bring
prosperity and justice to their members;
May it also be recognized that we have serious
concerns about the detrimental effects of urban casinos for the following main
reasons:
Urban casinos would have very negative
and harmful social and economic impacts on our local communities;
Urban casinos create significant
public safety and public health risks;
Urban casinos would considerably
worsen traffic congestion, impacting the quality of life for hundreds of
thousands of local residents, and creating major challenges for emergency
services and public transportation;
Urban casinos pose a threat to the
environmental quality of our region;
Urban casinos prey overwhelmingly on
low-income and vulnerable individuals.
Conclusion:
Together we urge state legislators to oppose all
Urban Gaming Compacts.
